Raleigh Car Accident Lawyers Talk Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Raleigh, North Carolina (NC) Car Accident Lawyers Rick Shapiro and Kevin Duffan talk about the types of available auto insurance coverage if you are hit by a driver who has an insufficient coverage. There is a provision in your own auto insurance policy called Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UIM) Coverage. This coverage is available if you are hit by someone who has a minimum insurance policy and your medical bills, lost wages, etc. far exceed their policy limits.

For example, let's say you're involved in a serious wreck while driving down Glenwood Avenue headed towards Northern Wake Expressway. You have over 50,000 dollars in medical expenses, but the other driver only has 25,000 in available auto insurance coverage. You have, let's say, a 100,000 auto insurance policy. In this scenario, the other driver's policy pays for the first 25,000 and your UIM coverage applies to the remaining 25,000.
