Truckload Carrier’s Association Names NC Man Highway Angel

Truck drivers spend a lot of their time on the road – so it is no surprise that they are often in the position to help out others who are in trouble after a traffic accident, truck accident, or car accident. This week the Truckload Carrier’s Association (TCA) singled out a heroic North Carolina truck driver by giving him a Highway Angel Award.

According to a press release, NC truck driver Joseph Weavil of Epes Transport in Greensboro, North Carolina, came to the aide of those in need while driving near Pocahontas Parkway in North Carolina On December 22, 2009. The man, who was making his way along I-95, saw a car slam into a guardrail and then roll down a steep embankment several times. While none of the surrounding cars stopped to help the victims trapped inside the car, Weavil pulled over his big rig, located the car, and called 911 for help.

The one-car accident could not be seen by passing drivers and the occupants of the car were in grave danger. The car had rolled down a 25-foot embankment and landed upside down in a creek below. North Carolina Patrolman Sgt. Chris Clark arrived at the scene and only located the crash site with the help of the truck driver. After breaking a window, Clark helped the father and children inside to safety.

Over the last 15 years, the Highway Angels program has recognized hundreds of truck drivers who help those on need while on the job and on the road.
