Truck Slams Into Elizabeth City Bus – 11 Injured

Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was the site of a serious truck and bus accident at the end of January. According to North Carolina police reports, The NC truck accident took place at the intersection of US 17 and Main Street Extended when a woman driving a pickup truck struck the Elizabeth City bus as it dropped children off after school.

Thirty children from the high school and middle school were in the bus and ten suffered injuries in the North Carolina school bus crash. One child was airlifted from the scene to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, though witnesses say that the child did not have life-threatening injuries. The other injured children suffered from a variety of bumps, bruises, and minor head injuries.

The driver of the truck had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency workers and also suffered serious injuries in the bus accident.

According to witnesses, the driver of the truck ran a stoplight and slammed into the bus. At the time of the truck collision, she was going an estimated 60 miles per hour. The bus spun and flipped, sending children out of their seats. The children with less serious injuries were taken to Albemarle Hospital for treatment.

Superintendent Linwood Williams told parents that social workers would be speaking to children in need at Elizabeth City Middle School and Pasquotank County High School.
