South Carolina Daughter Files Lawsuit After Parents Die In Car Crash

Posted on May 20, 2011
After being charged with two counts of felony DUI involving death, 34-year-old Christopher Gregg will also face a wrongful death lawsuit regarding the fatal crash that occurred last February in South Carolina.

On a late Sunday afternoon in February 2010, Gregg was driving on I-95 outside of Walterboro when he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the side of an SUV containing South Carolina couple 74-year-old Philip Lavoie and 70-year-old Elaine Lavoie. The SUV left the roadway, rolled over, and struck a tree. The couple, residents of Columbia, both died at the scene of the car accident.

The Lavoies were traveling the speed limit and both wore their seat belts. On the other hand, Gregg is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and possibly speeding. Witnesses say that Gregg was traveling at high rates of speed, swerving, and engaging on dangerous maneuvers while on I-95 that evening. In addition, Gregg may have been posting social networking messages from his phone to the internet while behind the wheel that day. Gregg is in jail and awaiting trial.

The couple’s daughter, Sharon Holley, has filed the wrongful death lawsuit.
