NC Injury Lawyers: Three North Carolina Children Struck by Car at Bus Stop

Each time a child is injured by a car accident in a school zone it becomes a sobering reminder of the importance of stopping whenever the school bus has its stop arm out and red lights flashing.

In Transylvania County, the school bus was stopped in a straightaway to pick up some students at the designated bus stop. The stop signs were out and red lights were flashing. Suddenly, a car entered the straightaway and struck three children. Two siblings, a 15-year-old and 10-year-old, were airlifted to Mission hospital. The third child was transported to Transylvania Regional Hospital.

Police determined that the elderly driver of the vehicle was at fault and is facing a felony charge.

Unfortunately, accidents and near-accidents involving school buses are quite common. School bus drivers in North Carolina reported 3,153 incidents in which stopped buses were passed illegally during a survey conducted on a single day. We implore all North Carolina drivers to remember to look for stop arms and flashing red lights and understand you have to stop – it’s the law.
