It is so frustrating to hear about tragic accidents where an innocent party was killed or hurt by the reckless and irresponsible decisions of a driver. The driver in this incident appears to have made the terrible decision to operate a vehicle while impaired. If only they had exercised more caution, this awful wreck may have been avoided.
Unfortunately, far too many drivers throw caution to the wind and get the behind the wheel of an automobile after drinking or taking substances that cause impairment. In fact, in 2012, 33.8 percent of all fatal accidents in North Carolina were caused by impaired drivers, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
