S.C. Woman and Elderly Mother Killed in Head-On Crash

Comments (0)

A tragic car accident in Jackson County has left a woman and her elderly mother dead. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, on Route 23S. According to WNCN.com, the two women were 53-year-old Ann Cory Braswell and her 75-year-old mother, Earlene Cory, both from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Police say Ms. Braswell was driving in the northbound lane when the other vehicle crossed over the center lane and slammed into her vehicle head-on.

Both drivers had to be extricated out of their vehicles. The two women killed were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 20-year-old Franklin woman who is reported to be six months pregnant, was flown by helicopter from the scene of the crash to Mission Hospital. Witnesses say that the helicopter experienced problems as it was trying to take off from the scene, describing the take-off as “wobbly” and saying it hit a power line. According to officials on the scene, the helicopter’s skids caught on the phone lines, not power lines, but the pilot was able to maneuver out of the situation safely.

Law enforcement is conducting an investigation to try to determine the cause of the crash. At this time, there are no charges pending against the driver who survived the fatal crash. Police have also not released any information regarding her medical condition.

Although no amount of monetary damages can ever replace the loss of a loved one, the family of the victims in this fatal crash should consider contacting a North Carolina wrongful death attorney. In tragic accidents such as these, families are often faced with financial obligations that they struggle to meet, such as funeral and burial expenses; medical expenses occurred at the scene of the crash as responders tried to save the life of their loved ones; and loss of wages and other financial benefits. There are also the painful emotional losses that families often deal with. These victims’ family members are facing a double loss, losing both mother and grandmother at once, something that is almost incomprehensible to imagine having to deal with.
