Two North Carolina women died in a single-car crash on U.S. 220 in Franklin County, North Carolina (N.C.) after veering off the road and hitting a concrete wall early Saturday morning, NC state police say. Mary McKethan Harper, 54, drove off the northbound side of U.S. 220 at McNeil Mill Road and hit a concrete wall, state police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri, said. The deadly one vehicle accident took place about 3:15 a.m.
Harper’s two passengers, Bridget Easley Russell, 49, and Sheila-Maye Dozier, 54, were killed in the wreck. Dozier was in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt, Carpentieri said. Harper was taken to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital with injuries that are not life threatening and has been charged with reckless driving, he said. All three women are from Fayetteville, N.C., he said. The crash is still under investigation.
