A crash has claimed two lives near Fayetteville, North Carolina (NC). The accident occurred between exits for N.C. 59 through Hope Mills and U.S. 71 for Parkton and Red Springs.
According to the Fayettesville Observer, a blue Oldsmobile heading north veered across the median, then struck a Hummer head on. The Hummer flipped before coming to rest in the median, and its driver suffered injuries, as did her passenger. Sadly, the driver of the Oldsmobile was killed, as was his 1-year-old, who was riding in a car seat but was not restrained.
As North Carolina personal injury attorneys, we know all too well how dangerous head on collisions are. Some 75 percent of such accidents occur on two-lane highways without a divider down the middle.
A clear spring afternoon turned tragic in the blink of an eye, but police say they aren't sure what caused the driver of the Oldsmobile to veer into the opposite lane. We can only speculate as to what might have happened. Alcohol, drugs, medical problems and drowsiness can cause a driver to lose control and make a dangerous mistake like this one.
Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families at what must be an incredibly difficult time for all involved.
