According to a report by WCNC, two people have been injured after a recent accident with a school bus in west Charlotte, NC. The accident occurred after students had already been dropped off at school; at around 9:15 a.m. Police say the wreck took place during heavy traffic in the 2900 block of Wilkinson Boulevard.
Law enforcement officials say that a 21-year-old driver involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be taken to the Carolinas Medical Center. Firefighters worked for more than 20 minutes trying to extract him from his car which had crashed into the back of the school bus.
The driver of the school bus was also injured after being hit by the young driver and was taken to the Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. A witness said that the young driver may have been speeding and was thus unable to swerve to avoid the collision, ultimately running into the back of the bus.
