Two Fatal Car Accidents on Durham, North Carolina Roads

There were two separate fatal traffic accidents that happened recently during evening hours of the weekend. Emergency crews responded promptly to the accidents, but it was too late for the victims who had died at the scene.

The first fatal car crash happened near Angier Avenue and Glover Road, around 11:30 p.m., when a car, driven by Kenneth Griffin II, of Durham, North Carolina, hit a pick-up truck. Griffin died from his injuries after he was ejected from his car. The collision involving Griffin is still under investigation.

Later that same night a second deadly wreck occurred around 2:15 a.m. when another car accident victim died after his 2008 Dodge crashed into a tree on South Roxboro Street, also in Durham. The State Highway Patrol says speed seems to be one of the accident's causes. The accident victim's name will not be release until next of kin is notified, according to authorities involved with the accident. Durham Police have temporarily closed off both accident areas, while they continue to be investigated.

The number one cause of car accidents is the consumption of alcohol by the driver. Sobriety devices are now being installed in cars of repeat drunk drivers under court order. These devices will force the driver to blow into a mouthpiece that will measure the amount of alcohol consumed. If they are above the legal limit to drive, the machine will lock the ignition preventing them from driving after they have been drinking.
