Three-Vehicle Accident in Raleigh Injures Two on U.S. 19

A three-car accident took place on U.S.19 in Raleigh, North Carolina (N.C.) around 4:25 p.m. last Sunday.  According to Wake County Sheriff Deputies, a northbound pickup truck driven by Ricardo Fleets, 19, was driving along a stretch of U.S. 19 when he suddenly came up on a vehicle that was parked in the lane of traffic and could not react in time to stop his vehicle, swerving into the southbound lane and striking an oncoming 2005 Ford F-150 truck.

The Ford was driven by Jason Leonard, 40 of Cool Ridge, North Carolina (N.C.). Leonard spun out of control due to the impact which subsequently crashed into another northbound vehicle driven by Steven Smith, 34. Leonard and Smith were immediately taken to the local hospital by first responders. There were no indications of their condition at the time of this writing.  It appears that the driver of the pickup truck, Fleets, will be cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle as well as driving with a suspended license.

According to auto-accident-resource.com, there were about 6 million reported automobile accidents in 2002 in the U.S.  2.9 million of this were injured in motor vehicle accidents.   It's important to stay alert at all times while driving a motor vehicle. In addition to obeying traffic laws, a driver should make sure at the very minimum that their engine, brakes, and tires are all in good condition. It is also very important to make the extra effort to pull over to the side of the road if there appears to be something wrong with your car or if you are experiencing any health conditions that may cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
