The Connection Between Effexor and Miscarriage

Suffering a miscarriage is one of the most heartbreaking, emotionally jarring experiences a woman can go through. So many questions infiltrate the mind like, "Why did this happen to me?" and "Could I have done something to prevent this from happening?" Some women are completely distraught after such a tragic event.

Unfortunately, many women may be able to attribute their miscarriage to the use of Effexor (venlaflaxine), an antidepressant drug. A study was released indicating a 68 percent increase in the risk of miscarriage for Effexor users, according to Time Magazine.

Effexor is manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and marketed by Pfizer with over 17 million prescriptions written for people to use this potentially dangerous drug.

What is so troubling is the fact that, as mentioned above, Effexor is used to help treat depression.  This means the women using this drug could already be struggling emotionally. When you add the pain and torment associated with a miscarriage and the depression a woman is dealing with could be made far worse.

If you or a loved one suffered a miscarriage and suspect it was due to Effexor, speak to an attorney immediately. Studies continue to be published indicating a connection between Effexor and heightened risk of miscarriage. You should sit down with a lawyer to discuss what legal options are available to you.
