Texting Motor Bike Rider Seriously Injured in Accident on N.C. 10

You've probably heard about the risks associated with texting while driving. Studies have shown it is 23 times more dangerous than not texting behind the wheel and it is just as dangerous as drunk driving. Well, the stakes are even higher if you're operating a motorcycle.

For example, a motor bike rider traveling on N.C. 10 near Claremont, North Carolina (NC) texted his friend saying he would meet him in "two minutes," according to The Hickory Record. Unfortunately, he never reached his destination. The motor bike rider wound up slamming into a pickup truck and suffered very serious injuries including broken bones and multiple fractures.

There was a passenger on the motorcycle and they too suffered very serious injuries after being propelled over 150 feet in the course of the motorcycle-truck wreck. Both the passenger and motorcycle operator were treated at the Catawba Regional Medical Center.

The occupants in the pickup truck also suffered injuries from the accident.

This crash is an example of why operating a motorcycle carelessly is a recipe for disaster. If you're on a motorcycle, the chances of sustaining a very serious injuries in a crash is 37 times higher than if you were in  a car, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association. Texting while driving is dangerous, but texting while operating a motorcycle is downright hazardous.
