South Carolina Woman Dies In RV-Train Collision

One woman is dead and her husband is seriously injured after a recreational vehicle was hit by a train in South Carolin in Georgetown County. The train accident took place on Monday morning, just a few minutes before 9 AM.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the motor home was traveling west on Highway 17a when the driver drove onto the tracks despite the oncoming train. The train struck the passenger side of the RV, killing the passenger, Carol Walker, and injuring the driver, who was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Police are not sure whether or not the driver, 72-year-old Bob Walker of Braddock Heights, simply didn’t see and hear the oncoming CSX train. Officials confirmed that the train warning signals were working at the time of the train-vehicle accident.

Walker is in stable condition at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and is expected to recover from his injuries.
