The North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

Anyone who has had food poisoning will tell you that it is a miserable experience which they never want to repeat. The Centers for Disease Control estimates foodborne illnesses cause 76 million illnesses and result in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths yearly in the United States. There are three basic types of food contamination; physical, chemical, and biological. All three types of contamination can cause serious illness, injury, or death. Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria are just a few of pathogens that can invade a food product; those who consume the contaminated item can have long term health consequences. In 2009 a salmonella outbreak was discovered in peanuts and it’s by products such as peanut butter. According to the CDC, the contamination caused 107 hospitalizations as well as eight deaths and hundreds more victims to become sick. Food poisoning lawsuits are complex and science-based. In order to prove negligence in a food poisoning case, it is crucial to have personal injury lawyers that have both knowledge of the field and real trial experience.
