Small Plane Crash in Dare County, NC, Injures Woman, Presumably Kills Pilot

Comments (0)

A woman suffered serious injuries when the small plane in which she was flying crashed into the Croatan Sound off the coast of Dare County, North Carolina (NC), shortly after 11 am on Jan. 13, 2013. The pilot of the aircraft remained missing as of the following morning despite extensive searching by the U.S. Coast Guard and numerous local and state fire and rescue agencies. The likelihood of the pilot being found alive was slim as crews returned to the crash scene about a mile from the Dare County Regional Airport the day after the accident.

The Virginia Aviation Accident Lawyers' Perspective

News reports contained no information on the model of the plane that went down. The cause of the plane crash also remains unknown, but the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will open investigations.

Any time any aircraft goes down, investigators must consider dozens of factors. Top reasons for aviation accidents include bad weather, improper maintenance and design flaws or defects with the plane or its components. Discovering which problem caused the Dare County crash may take many months, or even years, and we will not speculate on why this accident occurred.

As North Carolina personal injury and wrongful death attorneys who have represented victims of aviation accidents, however, we know that plane service companies and airplane manufacturers can and should be held accountable for injuries or lives lost when their work and products prove negligent or defective.
