Sentencing in Tragic DUI Accident Shows Danger of Drunk Driving

Comments (0)

An incredibly tragic drunk driving accident, which claimed the life of a young girl, has resulted in the at-fault driver’s being sentenced to nine years in prison, The Herald reports.

The accident, which occurred on New Year’s Day last year, occurred in Lexington, South Carolina (SC); the at-fault driver had been drinking heavily and believed he was sober enough to drive after merely a few hours’ rest. He subsequently crashed into the car carrying the victim and her family; the young girl, who was six, died in the accident, while her three brothers survived. The at-fault driver tested positive for a 0.208 blood-alcohol content, far over the legal limit in South Carolina.

There are no words to describe the tragedy of losing a young child, particularly in so terrible and senseless an accident. Our deepest condolences are extended to the family of the victim; the passage of over a year is not adequate to lessen the death of so young a loved one.

We know how serious, reckless and irresponsible is drunk driving; it is a behavior that no one need ever do. A sober friend or a cab ride is always the correct option; one should never be behind the wheel if one has had even a few drinks. At our Carolina-based personal injury law firm, we never defend drunk drivers; we always sue them. If you’ve been injured by a DWI/DUI driver, you should consider speaking to an injury attorney. We have years of experience in arguing against those who are irresponsible enough to take others’ lives into their own hands on the road.

If, like the tragic circumstances above, you have lost a loved one in a DUI accident, we know how incredibly painful the experience is. There is no amount of compensation that can bring back a loved one, or lessen the loss, yet when you are ready, you might consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault driver. Such a suit can bring a measure of justice to a terrible act.
