Comments (0)

What Happened:

Police in Charlotte, North Carolina have filed charges against a man for DWI after he hit and killed a pedestrian early last Friday morning. The tragic North Carolina wreck occurred on Prosperity Church Road in northeast Charlotte.

The collision happened at about 3:45 in the morning between Loganville Drive and Pantherville Drive. According to police, the victim was out walking his dog when he was hit by the other man’s 1999 Volvo.

According to MEDIC, the pedestrian died a few moments after the collision. The man’s dog was also taken to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Animal Care and Control Bureau for treatment for a broken hind leg.

When police arrived, the man in the Volvo showed signs of impairment and was arrested on the scene and charged with DWI. He was then taken to a local hospital where a blood sample was taken. The incident remains under investigation as police wait on results from the blood test and additional charges may be pending.

The North Carolina Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

This crash demonstrates just how dangerous a decision to drive drunk can be. While you may think you’re OK to drive, the fact is drinking and driving is frequently a deadly combination. Making the irresponsible decision to get behind the wheel of a car after having a few too many ended up costing an innocent pedestrian his life. Now the man responsible for the terrible crash is facing jail time and in addition to the possibility of a civil suit as a result of the accident.

The victims’ loved ones should consider speaking with a North Carolina personal injury lawyer to weigh their legal options. Just because the at-fault driver faces criminal charges does not preclude the victims’ loved ones from seeking restitution through a civil claim.
