Pedestrian Killed in Accident in Mecklenburg, North Carolina

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in Mecklenburg Saturday night on South Tryon Street in Mecklenburg, North Carolina (NC).

The Mecklenburg-Charlotte Police Department said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street at an
intersection on South Tryon Street when he was struck by a Honda. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and waited for the Mecklenburg-Charlotte Police Department to arrive.

After the driver of the Honda had gotten out of the car, the Honda was struck by another vehicle. Neither driver in the accident was hurt. However, the pedestrian died on the scene from his injuries. The police department told reporters that no charges would be filed in the accident.

As a personal injury attorney, I have seen many cases involving
pedestrians on the roadway; crossing the street, even at a proper intersection, can turn tragic in an instant. If you live in an area where you walk along busy roadways often, you should take special care to protect yourself and do what you can to prevent accidents.

While you are on foot near any roadway, try to remain on the sidewalk or grassy areas off of the pavement as much as possible. For places where you must cross the roadway, such as intersections, be sure to wait for the pedestrian signal on the light before crossing, and remember to look both ways. Also, bear in mind that cars can make right turns on red in most areas, so be sure to pay special attention to the cars in the far right lane.

As a
pedestrian it can be easy to forget that drivers can not always see you as well as you can see them. Never cross in front of a vehicle unless you are sure they have seen you. If you can, play it safe and wait until the roadway is free of vehicles before crossing. While this isn’t always possible, safe is better then sorry when it comes to pedestrian walking.
