New Bern, NC Head-On Collision Kills Two Men

Comments (0)

A two-car crash in New Bern, North Carolina (NC), on December 19, 2015, claimed the lives of both drivers. The head-on collision happened on U.S. 17 Business/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the intersection with Academic Drive.

According to police, the wreck started with the driver of a Nissan Altima running across the grassy median of the highway. The person in that car died at the scene, and the man driving the other car succumbed to injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital. Investigators could not immediately determine why the first driver lost control of his car and wound up on the wrong side of the road in the path of oncoming traffic.

Possible explanations for this deadly head-on collision include falling asleep behind the wheel, suffering a medical emergency such as a seizure and being impaired by drugs and alcohol. Determining why the Nissan driver could not stay on his on side of the highway matters because if he acted negligently or recklessly, his automobile insurance would cover the wrongful death of the other crash victim.

Even though the at-fault driver would have died in the wreck, his insurance coverage remains in effect until all claims arising from the crash are settled. That legal principle does not, however, guarantee that the family of the other man who lost his life will receive compensation automatically. The death of an at-fault driver often complicates insurance claims, so the innocent victim's survivors may need assistance and advice from an experienced Carolina wrongful death attorney.
