WRAL reports that the driver of a 2003 Honda Accord, Shyqaun Davis of Durham, died early on Saturday, April 25, 2015 when he lost control of his car on South Miami Boulevard in Durham, North Carolina, hit a curb, and spun across the road, colliding with a woman driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla.
Investigators at the scene said that the force of the collision "sheared the Accord in half." They explained that the front half of the car continued across southbound lanes and struck a second car, a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by a Durham man.
The Honda Accord driver was thrown from his car and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Corolla, Tiffany Medlin, a woman from Clayton, North Carolina, was taken to the hospital for the treatment of serious injuries, and the third driver was not injured.
The police investigation is ongoing, but Durham Police Department has indicated that speed was a factor in this accident. We do not yet know how the driver lost control of his vehicle.
When traumatic accidents like these occur we send our condolences to the family of the deceased and our well wishes to the injured parties for a full recovery. Speed, unfortunately, is to blame for several thousand car accidents annually, and when excessive speed is combined with a momentary distraction from which a driver cannot quickly recover, accidents like these can occur.
This is why our firm represents the victims of car accidents. The safest, most cautious, and most defensive drivers can be hit suddenly by someone who has unintentionally lost control of his vehicle for a number of reasons. As the survivor of a tragic accident, we certainly hope that the injured woman here is able to manage both her recovery for the damage to her property and the medical expenses she has as a result of her injuries from this accident. Accidents like these take an emotional and physical toll on the body and in our experience handling serious car accident cases like this one, we encourage our clients to focus on healing while we handle the legal matters.
