NC Truck Crash Injures Driver and Spills Logs Across Highway

Comments (0)

What Happened:

An accident between a log truck and a car on Highway 17 at the entrance of Brunswick Forest resulted in injuries to the car driver and a citation for the truck driver. The accident has also sparked calls for the speed limit to be reduced on the dangerous, curving road which has seen many other accidents prior to this one.

The accident happened around 4 in the afternoon when the truck crashed into the car, spilling logs across the roadway. North Carolina Highway Patrol said traffic was slowing to a stop at a nearby red light but the tractor-trailer was unable to slow down fast enough. Given its speed, it then slammed into the car in the intersection.

The driver of the car, a 74-year-old man from Leland, NC, was transported to the hospital suffering from a head injury. Thankfully, troopers believe his injuries are not life threatening. The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 21-year-old from Watha, NC, has been cited with failure to reduce speed.

Neighbors are saying they’ve asked for a speed reduction in the area before, requesting that it be dropped from 55 to 45 mph. They say the North Carolina Department of Transportation rejected their earlier request, but hope that after this wreck, the state might reconsider.

The North Carolina Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

Speed was yet again a factor in a terrible and unnecessary accident. Had the log truck driver been paying better attention and moving at a slower speed, the terrible wreck might never have occurred. Given that the truck’s speed appears to be the cause of the wreck, the injured victim should consult with a North Carolina personal injury attorney to discuss what legal options may be available to him.
