N.C. driver charged with drunk driving, felony death by vehicle

A North Carolina woman has been charged with drunk driving and felony death by vehicle as the result of a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend, according to WTKR News.

The accident occurred when the drunk driver struck another vehicle that was stopped at a red light. The accident killed Charlotte-resident John Sullivan, 24, who was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle that was hit. Two other occupants in the car received non life-threatening injuries.

Senseless, preventable car accidents involving
drunk drivers needlessly kill innocent victims.  John "Michael"/Mike Sullivan was born June 24, 1985 in Sarasota, Florida. He attended Incarnation Catholic School in Sarasota, St. Ann's, and Holy Trinity Middle School in Charlotte, Charlotte Catholic High School, and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2007. He had lived in Raleigh since graduation, working at Harrington Bank and Nantucket Grill.  According to his family, Mike never met a stranger, and was a loyal, devoted, supportive friend to many, many people.  Again, he was innocently seated in a car, which was rammed in the rear by a drunk driver, per news reports.  Senseless.  Unnecessary.  Unthinkable.

Another innocent, young man lost his life due to the negligence of a drunk driver.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. While the driver is facing the appropriate charges, we know that nothing can be said or done to repair the damage this has undoubtedly caused.  All this driver needed to do was call a taxi, get a friend to drive, or simply avoid doing the illegal act of driving a car while impaired.

In North Carolina,
approximately 500 people lose their lives due to alcohol-related car accidents each year. Nationwide, 36 people die each day and roughly 700 are injured due to drunk drivers. We believe these numbers are too high and that drunk drivers need to be held accountable for their irresponsible actions

If you have been injured in an accident or have lost a family member because of a drunk driver, please feel free to contact our law office for a consultation, absolutely free of charge.
