A miniature train at Cleveland Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina (SC) was in its first hour of operation of the season when it derailed fatally injuring a 6-year-old boy and injuring over 20 people, according to upi.com. There were over 30 people on the mini train when it derailed.
Reports indicate the mini train inspector did not report a dead battery on the mini train the day of inspection, according to wspa.com. This inspector was fired, but questions continue to remain about this tragic train accident. For example, why did the train company fail to double check the inspectors work?
My heartfelt condolences go out to the family who lost their young boy in this mini train derailment. As the mother of a young child, I do not know what I would do if I lost my child in a sudden accident. I know I would be furious at the negligence of the inspector and the company that allowed such a blatant oversight to occur.
Of the over 20 people injured, six children are included. Three of the injured children are being treated at Spartanburg Regional and the three other children are being treated in the Greenville Hospital System.
The families of the victims in this terrible mini train accident should consult with an attorney to discuss their legal options. This was a preventable accident and the families whose loved ones were seriously hurt or lost their lives deserve some semblance of justice.
