Man Killed in Union County, NC Hit-and-Run Accident

Comments (0)

A man walking along Potter Road in Union County, North Carolina (NC), was hit and killed by a teenaged driver on the night of April 7, 2012. The victim was not discovered until early the next morning, according to WCNC.

Witnesses to the accident saw the driver of a Lexus SUV stop and inspect the vehicle for damage before leaving the scene. The SUV's owner, who was not operating the vehicle that night, called police when he heard about the pedestrian's death. Police are not releasing the name of the at-fault driver due to her juvenile status.

The at-fault driver is reportedly claiming that she thought she hit a deer. That mistake does not absolve her from liability for causing an innocent man to lose hs life. Driving off after causing an accident before authorities arrive is morally reprehensible and against the law.

It is frustrating to think that if the at-fault driver stopped and tried to determine whether she had struck a fellow human being, the victim might have survived.

The victim’s family should speak with a wrongful death attorney in North Carolina about their legal options. To learn about what types of damages may be available in a wrongful death claim, take a moment to read this article.
