Man Killed by Amtrak Train in Cary, North Carolina

A man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in Cary, North Carolina (NC). Federal Railroad Safety Administration investigators have not yet released the cause of the accident that cost the Cary man his life. However, the investigators have told reporters that the man was on the Amtrak train tracks at the time of the accident. The Amtrak train, with 33 passengers, was headed to Charlotte, North Carolina (NC). None of the train’s passengers were injured in the accident.

According to the Federal Railroad Safety Administration, there have been 92 total railroad accidents in North Carolina so far this year. Of those 92 accidents, 8 have led to fatalities. The number of fatalities by year has gone down slightly in North Carolina, but it is still cause for concern.

The loss of life in Cary, North Carolina is tragic regardless of the cause. Trains can be deadly. Proper safety both in and around trains is vital. A train can weigh up to 6,000 tons when it is fully equipped. This is comparable to the weight of a soda can against the weight of an average vehicle.
