Man Dies in NC Motorcycle Accident

According to WBTV, a man has died in a wreck involving a motorcycle, a van, and a jeep in Mint Hill, North Carolina (NC). The accident occurred at 5:56 p.m. at the intersection of Evans Road and NC 51 (Matthews-Mint Hill Road).

According to the Mint Hill Police Department, the motorcyclist (41 year-old Richard Cullinan Jr.) was driving a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on NC 51when he approached the Evans Road intersection. A Ford Windstar van, driven by a 55 year-old woman, then attempted to turn left onto NC 51 and collided with the motorcycle. Cullinan ended up on in the northbound lane of NC 51, where he was ejected from his vehicle and struck by a Jeep Cherokee. The victim died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office has yet to determine if charges will be filed.

Our condolences go out to the family of the sole victim here. It will come as no surprise to readers that motorcyclists are especially at risk for serious injuries when they collide with vans, trucks, and cars on the road. Even while wearing safety helmets, they are terribly exposed to the damage that other types of vehicles can do.

In order to avoid accidents like this one, always check oncoming traffic when attempting to merge, especially when making left-hand turns. The other drivers always have the right of way if you are crossing the line of traffic.

If you were harmed in a motorcycle, van, or jeep accident, contact a capable personal injury attorney.
