Man Charged With DWI in Deadly Charlotte Crash

Comments (0)

What Happened:

A driver was speeding on Brookshire Blvd. near the I-85 interchange in Charlotte, North Carolina, when his Chevy Suburban slammed into the rear of a GMC Jimmy SUV. The crash was so severe that both vehicles flew over the median, and the Suburban also slammed into another car head on and crashed into a pickup truck. The GMC Jimmy was thrown nearly 400 feet from the initial wreck and flipped over.

The driver of the GMC Jimmy, Leslie Dahm, died at the scene. The driver of the Suburban suffered minor injuries, and has been charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while license revoked, reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter. Two other people in the other vehicles also were hurt.

North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyer Perspective:

Drunk driving destroys lives - According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, drunk drivers killed 365 people in North Carolina in 2011. There is little doubt in this case that bad choices with alcohol appear to have caused more senseless slaughter of innocent people. While there is nothing that can be done to bring back the life that was lost in this senseless accident, the families of the injured and dead have the option of filing a civil lawsuit against the responsible driver to recover damages.

If the families are going to sue, they should choose their personal injury lawyer carefully. They should choose a personal injury attorney who only represents the victims of drunk drivers. Also, their attorney should have a proven record of winning big settlements for the victims of drunk drivers. A good example is this case in Virginia Beach, where one of our attorneys won a $300,000 settlement for a pedestrian who was horribly injured by a drunk driver.

Our hearts go out to the family of the dead driver, and also to the other injured parties.
