Inflatable Infant Floats Recalled Nationwide Due To Drowning Risk

Summer is a wonderful time to play in the water with your toddlers and infants - but it is vital that you are using safe water toys in the pond, lake, or pool. Today the United State Consumer Protection Safety Commission issued a national recall of Aqua Leisure Industries infant floatation devices.

Reports say that the 14 models of floaties - all which have leg holes so that toddlers and infants can sit up in the devices - are prone to ripping. These tears near the leg holes could allow an infant to slip into the water and drown.

The defective products were sold in Target, Toys "R" Us, Wal-Mart, Dollar General, Kmart, Walgreens, Ace Hardware and Bed, Bath & Beyond from 2002 to June 2009. Although there have been no reports of child drowning deaths or injuries at this point, the CPSC asks users to stop using the defective product immediately. Four million floaties were sold.
