Henderson County, NC High School Students to Participate in Mock Crash Scenes

Comments (0)

NC car accident injury attorneyHigh school students in Henderson County, North Carolina, will be able to see up-close exactly what a crash scene looks like. The Henderson County Sheriff's Office's Traffic Enforcement Team will be setting up the mock crash scenes at local high schools to send a "message of safety and concern" to students as proms, graduations and other end-of-school events start filling up the calendar.

The mock crash scenes will be set up at West Henderson High School, North Henderson High School and East Henderson High School.  According to Major Frank Stout, from the Sheriff’s Office, the scenes will “demonstrate the consequences of drinking and driving, distracted driving as well as seat belt usage. Our local fire departments, rescue squad and MAMA from Mission Hospital will be assisting in this effort. One of our local wrecker services has provided a crashed car to use for these events.”

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, there were four teenagers killed in vehicle crashes in Henderson County from 2008 to 2012. Statistics also show that teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal accidents as other drivers.

Many police departments are holding these sobering demonstrations as a way to reinforce to high school students how important it is to make the right choices before getting behind the wheel of a car. Our North Carolina personal injury firm has reported on several of them, including demonstrations held in Sanford and another held in Newton Grove.  Our firm has also put together some startling facts about teenage car accidents.
