Four students have received hospital treatment after their school bus was involved in an accident with a pickup truck near Wilmington, North Carolina (NC).
The school bus injury accident took place at the intersection of Gordon Road and Market Street on Friday afternoon, WECT6 reported. The pickup truck driver was trying to turn left onto Market Street from a parking lot at a bank when he hit the school bus full of students from Blair Elementary.
Fortunately in this case, the students' injuries were not serious. The pickup truck driver was also treated for non life threatening injuries. He was later charged with failure to yield.
We recently reported on how police in Wilmington are cracking down on school bus law violators. Some drivers told police they are not aware that it's mandatory for vehicles to stop behind a school bus when its emergency flashers are on and stop arm is activated.
There's no suggestion the school bus laws were violated in Friday's incident, but in some cases these laws have been flouted with serious and even tragic consequences.
