In two days, four lives were lost and four families were changed forever. To make matters even worse, two of the lost lives were children. One was a 7-year-old child who was hit by a car in Sanford, North Carolina (NC) and the other was a 6-year-old child who was involved in a car crash in Johnson County, NC.
Three of the four car accidents occurred late in the evening on Sunday, December 26. Winter weather inundated most of NC which led to patches of black ice.
Black ice is one of the most dangerous conditions for winter weather drivers. Black ice is virtually translucent and you don't know you've hit a patch until you've lost control of your vehicle.
The 6-year-old child was killed in a car wreck where the vehicle hit a patch of ice and flipped over multiple times, according to newsobserver.com.
If you have to driver in bad winter weather, slow down and stay at least 10 miles below the posted speed limit. This is especially applicable if you have to driver at night. When it snows during the day, the liquid freezes at night and you get numerous patches of black ice and long stretches of slippery roads.
Also, be vigilant while driving. Never take your eyes off the road. Even if you are responsible and drive under the speed limit, another driver may not be so careful and wind up hitting you. If this happened to you or a loved one and an injury resulted like whiplash, broken bones, lower back pain, or any other injury, consult with an attorney right away.
