The car crash happened just before 7 pm on a Saturday in May 2011 on W.M. Griffin Road, south of Monroe. The driver, age 17, lost control and the car flipped. She ran off the road on the left side coming around a curve, and overcorrected to the right, crossing the center of the road, causing the car to flip. Authorities estimated she drove at least 80 miles per hour when the speed limit was 55 mph.
The Fort Mill, NC, teen who died was a passenger in the front passenger seat. Four people were in the car. The driver, the driver's younger cousin, and the deceased teen's sister were all taken to the Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
The deceased teen was an active percussionist and set to graduate this year from Indian Land High School. The school's band director said he was a good friend and musician. The University of South Carolina at Lancaster accepted him for the fall.
Troopers were still investigating the crash. If the North Carolina wreck was the fault of anyone, the family or friends of the deceased teen might have to file a wrongful death case with the assistance of North Carolina personal injury lawyers against the responsible parties in order to recover for the pain suffered.
The death of a loved one is an unexpected life-altering event that may never fully be put in the past. It is troubling to think that, a teen was not promised a tomorrow, and three people suffered serious injuries they may never fully recover from. This North Carolina vehicle crash illustrated the damage that may occur when a driver does not follow the speed limit, and how someone might need to engage NC personal injury attorneys to get justice.
