Former High Point, NC Pastor Killed by Drunk Driver in Florida

Comments (0)

A former North Carolina pastor was killed in Parrish, FL when the SUV he was driving was slammed into by a drunk driver.

The 68-year-old High Point man was driving a 2012 GMC Terrain north in the right lane of Interstate 75, at approximately 4:30 a.m. As he was approaching the Moccasin Wallow Road exit, a 2012 Chrysler van driven by a 33 year-old Miami woman slammed into the rear of the GMC, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway and overturn. The driver of the van later told police she did not see the victim’s large SUV directly in front of her when she hit it.

The victim’s 69 year-old wife, who was a passenger in the GMC, was taken to Lake Medical Center in Bradenton, where she is listed in serious condition. The woman driving the van had her three daughters in the vehicle, ages five, three and one. All three children, and their mother, were treated for minor injuries at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

Police have charged the driver of the van with DUI manslaughter, DUI causing serious bodily injury, driving with a suspended or revoked license and causing a fatality and child endangerment.

Our condolences go out to the victim’s family over the loss of their loved one. This tragic accident could have ended even worse than it did, considering that the driver of the van had her three young children in the vehicle. According to statistics, over two hundred children are killed every year in accidents caused by drunk drivers.

If you have lost a family member in a car crash caused by a drunk driver, contact an experienced North Carolina wrongful death attorney to find out what civil liability the driver may have for your family’s pain and lost.
