Comments (0)
A former mayor of Belmont, North Carolina (NC), and a passenger in his car were innocent victims of a police pursuit that turned deadly on February 22, 2012.

According to WCNC, the fatal situation began when a man who has had numerous run-ins with the law drove around a police checkpoint, almost striking two police officers. Police pursued him on I-85 to the Park Street exit in Belmont. The SUV driver ran a red light at Wilkinson Boulevard and hit a car being driven by the former mayor.

The suspect continued to run on foot, but was caught by police and arrested. He is likely to face multiple charges, including those related to the tragic deaths of two people.

Family members of the deceased victims and the people injured in the crash should contact an experienced North Carolina car accident attorney to discuss the facts of the case and what claims should be filed, either with insurance companies or in court.
