Failure to Yield Results in Fatal Myrtle Beach Crash

Comments (0)

A 32-year-old Myrtle Beach woman was killed in a car crash on U.S. 378 in Horry County. According to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near Pee Dee Highway, about 5 miles west of Conway, at approximately 6:30 in the morning.

The victim was driving a 2001 Ford was traveling west. Another vehicle, a 2006 Ford SUV driven by a 43-year-old woman, was traveling east and attempted to turn left into a private driveway. She did not yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and hit the victim’s vehicle.

The victim, a nurse, was rushed to Conway Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead two hours later as a result of internal injuries she suffered in the crash. A passenger in the car, as well as the driver of the SUV, were also both transported to the hospital for injuries, but police have not released the extent of those injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash and has confirmed that the driver of the SUV will be charged with failure to yield the right of way.

Failure to yield is one of the leading causes of traffic accidents, both here in South Carolina, and the rest of the country. In fact, it is the second leading traffic offense that results in fatal accidents.

S.C. Code of Laws Section 56-5-2320 reads: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn left within an intersection or into an alley, private road or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.”

If you have lost a loved one in a car crash that was caused by another driver’s failure to yield, contact an experienced Carolina wrongful death attorney to find out what legal recourse you may have against the negligent driver for your family’s pain and loss.
