Elkin Man Killed in Crash Caused by Red Light Violation

Comments (0)

One man was killed and two other people were injured in a car crash which occurred in Elkin, N.C. Monday afternoon. The accident happened at the intersection of CC Camp Road, which is also known as Highway 268, and Johnson Ridge Road.

According to police reports, the victim, a 57-year-old Elkin man, was in a car that was T-boned by an SUV being driven by a 50-year-old woman from Jonesville. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Hugh Chatham Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the facility.

The driver of the SUV and a 70-year-old Boonville woman were also transported to the hospital because of injuries received in the crash. It was unclear which vehicle the older woman was a passenger in.

Police continue to investigate the accident, and have cited the driver of the SUV for a red light violation.

According to federal crash statistics, almost 800 people are killed every year in car accidents caused by someone running a red light. Another 160,000 people are injured. The majority of these crashes have similar circumstances, with one vehicle T-boning another. Structurally, the side of an automobile is the weakest, so these types of crashes leave drivers and their passengers particularly vulnerable to serious injury – or death – when hit by a driver running a red light.

If you have been injured in an accident caused by an at-fault driver, contact an experienced North Carolina personal injury attorney to find out what compensation you may be entitled to for your pain and loss.
