Recently, a deadly two-car collision on N.C. 111 left one man dead and another in the hospital, highway patrol officials reported. According to Duplin County, North Carolina (N.C.) officers familiar with the fatal car accident, the wreck occurred around 9:07 a.m. near the intersection of N.C. 111 and Ridgeway Road.
A 20 yr old Marine from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (N.C.) was driving a Ford 15-passenger van toward the Albert Ellis Airport when he swerved left of center and collided with a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 63 yr old Duplin County man, who was killed instantly from the head on collision.
The Camp Lejuene Marine was driving an official government vehicle while driving to the airport for a pick-up when the crash happened. The Marine suffered a concussion and soft-tissue damage and was flown to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he is now conscious and in stable condition.
Apparently, there was no alcohol involved in the crash, which happened on a particularly straight stretch of road. Investigators are still looking into other other factors that may have caused the wreck. In addition to Highway Patrol, Onslow County Emergency Services and Back Swamp Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash.
