Drunk Red Light Runner Kills Man in Garner, NC

Comments (0)

An innocent driver died in a six-vehicle crash caused by a drunk elderly driver who ran a red light in Garner, North Carolina (NC), on the afternoon of August 31, 2016. The deadly multivehicle crash occurred at the intersection of  Vandora Springs Road and Timber Drive.

Police and multiple news outlets identified the deceased victim as 56-year-old Tyrone Pugh of Angier. He initially survived being struck head-on by the impaired driver but succumbed to his injuries at a Wake County hospital. An unspecified number of people also required medical treatment for accident-related injuries.

The at-fault driver is 74 years old. He was charged at the scene with driving while impaired by alcohol and may face additional charges for violating traffic laws and inflicting injuries.

This deadly drunk driving accident in Garner illustrates why my Carolina wrongful death attorney law firm colleagues and I committed ourselves to only taking cases from crash victims. The innocent man who lost his life and the numerous individuals who sustained injuries should have been safe at that stoplight at Vandora Springs Road and Timber Drive. They suffered only because someone else made the reckless choice to drink too much alcohol before going for a drive. Only an individual driver can stop him or herself from driving drunk, but we must hold them accountable for doing so.
