Drunk North Carolina Driver Rear Ends ATV, Kills One

Comments (0)

What Happened:

An ATV was driving north near Lumberton, North Carolina when a 1986 Ford slammed into it from the rear. The car driver was drunk, and the crash killed the ATV passenger, while its driver was injured. The ATV was traveling at 35 MPH on a 55 MPH road, and had no working tail lights, both of which contributed to the accident.

The driver of the car was Melvin Eddy, and he has been charged with DUI by the North Carolina State Police. Further charges are pending.

North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyer Perspective:

This senseless accident shows that it is imperative for people to never drive after they have been drinking. The consequences can be truly heart breaking, and if you drink and drive and kill someone, you will almost certainly do serious jail time.

Also, we all need to use care when driving on ATVs, and should make sure that all lights and tail lights are functioning, so as to avoid tragedy. We send our sincere condolences to the family in this case.

A possible wrongful death lawsuit could be filed against the drunk driver of the Ford. The family of the victim should have this case evaluated by an experienced personal injury attorney, because they could be entitled to financial compensation for their pain and suffering. The family also could sue the driver of the ATV, given the fact that the ATV had lights that were not functioning properly. Consult with an attorney to be certain of your legal rights.
