Drunk Driver Charged After Wake County, NC Head-On

Comments (0)

Driving while impaired by alcohol charges have been filed against a man state police say caused a fiery head-on collision in Wake County, North Carolina (NC), before dawn on June 20, 2016. The two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of Zebulon Road and U.S. 401 outside of the town of Rolesville.

Evidence showed that the drunk driver crossed the center line of the state highway before hitting a car travelling in the opposite direction. The impact seriously injured the other driver and led to the at-fault driver's SUV bursting into flames. The innocent victim's injuries were described as severe but not life-threatening, which promises a partial but long and costly recovery.

News reports indicate that the man responsible for this DWI wreck has a history of arrests for driving under the influence. Having helped many victims of drunk and drugged drivers, my Carolina personal injury law firm colleagues and I know that repeat drunk drivers pose particular risks on North Carolina roads and across the United States.

Even when individuals have their licenses suspended, they may still get behind the wheel after becoming intoxicated. Requiring ignition interlock devices and impounding vehicles can reduce instances of repeated DWI, but only responsible decisions to set down the keys when picking up a bottle will protect others' lives and health. People who make the reckless choice to drive drunk must be held accountable for the injuries and damages they inflict.
