Police have cited a driver for causing a serious multi-car crash over the weekend. The accident occurred on Interstate 95, near Micro, N.C.
According to the Highway Patrol, the operator of a Jeep Cherokee, which was towing a small trailer, failed to slow down with the flow of the northbound traffic. The Jeep flipped over several times in the left hand lane of the interstate. Three trucks, including a tractor trailer and a rental truck, went off the road in an effort to avoid hitting the Jeep. Another vehicle slammed into the trailer.
Four people were transported to area hospital because of injuries they sustained in the crash. The accident is being investigated by state troopers, who have cited the driver of the Jeep for speeding.
According to state statistics, speeding is one of the main causes of crashes and fatalities on North Carolina’s road and was a factor in almost four hundred deaths in 2012.
