As a personal injury attorney I am seeing more and more cases of head on collisions. The aftermath of these wrecks is devastating with catastrophic injuries such as brain damage and even death. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can have devastating effects on the victim and some of these effects like persistent migraines, memory loss, or slower mental cognition may not be immediately obvious after a head-on collision.
Last Friday, a small passenger car was traveling South in the left lane of Charles Blvd in Greenville, North Carolina (NC) when it crossed over two lanes and struck an SUV head on in the northbound lane, say Police.
I can't imagine the panic that the driver of the SUV must have felt in the seconds before the at-fault car collided. The man was on his way to pick up his two young children. As a dad, it really strikes a nerve that those children will never again see their father as tragically both drivers are now dead.
I know the family must have many questions at this point. There is no word yet of what caused the at fault driver to cross over the median, but it could have been a number of things, from distracted driving to speeding, which can cause cars to lose control.
This tragic accident is yet another example of how deadly head-on accidents can be. Most head-on accidents in Virginia (VA) and North Carolina (NC) take place on two-way highways, where high speeds and the lack of a median can result in serious injury or death. Since the two vehicles strike from opposite directions, the force of the impact is doubled, making trauma and injury much more likely. These accidents take place when a car or truck leaves their lane and crosses the double-yellow centerline into oncoming traffic.
