Deadly Driving Overcorrection Kills Two in Vanceboro, NC

Comments (0)

What Happened:

A fatal car wreck occurred north of Vanceboro, North Carolina, when a driver traveling south on Highway 43 left the roadway, overcorrected, and shot across the center line. He slammed head on into another vehicle, killing himself and the passenger in the other car. The condition of the driver of the other car was not released by authorities.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, overcorrection accidents kill about 7,500 drivers every year in the US. According to Sgt. Philip Collins, it is very important for drivers to never panic if they are veering off the road way.

“As soon as the vehicle leads the roadway, you take your foot off the gas. Let the car settle, and once you’re back on the road, you can do breaking or apply the gas to accelerate,” he said in an interview with local media.

North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyer Perspective:

This terrible accident reminds us just how important it is to always pay attention when you are driving, especially at highway speeds. Also, if you ever find yourself veering off the road, remember:

1.       Never panic!

2.       Ease your foot off the gas.

3.       Ease the steering wheel back in the correct direction until you are on the road again.

4.       Apply the brake or gas pedal as usual.

By following these simple tips, you can avoid a deadly overcorrection incident.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims in this case. They should consider speaking with a personal injury attorney in North Carolina, as they could be eligible for financial restitution in a wrongful death lawsuit. They could recover financial damages, for pain and suffering, loss of earnings, and funeral expenses.
