Cornelius NC Man Killed in South Carolina Accident

Comments (0)

A North Carolina man who got out of his vehicle to survey the damage done to his car in an accident was killed when he was struck by a passing car, on Interstate 77 in Fort Mill, SC. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m.

According to law enforcement reports, the 57 year-old Cornelius man was driving on the northbound side of the interstate, near exit 88, when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The two vehicles pulled over to the side of the road, and the victim got out of his car, a Hyundai Genesis, to check on the other driver.

As he was heading toward the other vehicle, he was suddenly hit by a Honda which was being driven by a 46 year-old Huntsville, NC man. The driver of that car was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the accident.

Exiting a vehicle in the breakdown lane on a highway can be deadly, as this tragic accident exemplifies. This is one of the reasons why many states, including North Carolina, have a move over law on the books. The move over law is aimed at protecting emergency responders, utility and maintenance crews or other vehicles, including tow trucks with flashing amber lights. Unfortunately, there are still lives lost in what are avoidable accidents if drivers were paying attention to the road around them.

If you have lost a loved one in a car crash caused by another driver’s negligence, contact a dedicated North Carolina wrongful death attorney to find out what legal recourse you may have against the driver for your family’s pain and loss.
