Charlotte Police Officer Charged Sued For Wrongful Death In NC Car Wreck

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer Martray Proctor, 24, is now facing a North Carolina wrongful death lawsuit following the fatal crash he caused in April. The NC wrongful death suit seeks over $10,000 in damages and involves both the officer and the City of Charlotte.

In April 2008, Proctor was responding to a police call when he hit and killed 20-year-old Shatona Robinson, a nursing home worker who was driving on Old Statesville Road in Charlotte. Proctor and three passengers in Robinson's car were injured in the NC car accident.

Officials say that although police officers are allowed to speed while responding to a call, Proctor did not have his lights or siren activated. He was traveling 90 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. He has received three speeding tickets in the past.

Proctor, who recently resigned from his position at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, is also being charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the case.
