Car Accident Related Deaths have Increased in Fayetteville, North Carolina

Fayetteville, North Carolina (NC) has seen an increase in car accident fatalities so far in 2009. So far this year traffic deaths have surpassed 2008’s recorded total of 17 with 19 fatalities recorded in the first half of 2009.

This number takes in to account drivers and passengers as well as, motorcyclists, pedestrians and Moped drivers. According to the Fayetteville Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Division the fatality total for this year includes three motorcycle drivers, eight vehicle drivers, three passengers and four pedestrians.

The police department in Fayetteville, North Carolina (NC) reported that alcohol and speeding were responsible for 85% of the car accidents. The second highest cause was driver’s running through red lights at intersections. These high numbers come after an attempt by the police department to cut down on speeding and intoxicated drivers.

In regards to the statistics, Tom Crosby, president of the AAA Carolinas Traffic Safety Foundation told reporters, “These (fatal accidents) may come about for a mixture of causes, but there are always some underlying consistencies. Drunk driving and speeding are two of the ones we've really not been able to address adequately.”

As we can see from these car accident statistics, drunk driving can quickly lead to fatalities and despite the best efforts of local law enforcement not all drunk drivers can be caught. Do your part by becoming a designated driver and take the chance of an alcohol related crash off the roadways. If you see another driver who appears to have been drinking, call the police department and report the make and model of the car.

Another way you can cut down on the amount of traffic accidents is to simply pay more attention to the road. The AAA Carolinas Traffic Safety Foundation strongly believes that the majority of people who run red lights and stop signs simply did not see the intersection. By cutting down on distractions and paying more attention to the road you can drastically reduce your chances of being in a car accident.
