Alleged Drunk Driver Flees From Crash and Kills North Carolina Woman

Comments (0)

What Happened:

An alleged drunk driver was involved in an accident in Leland, North Carolina and he fled the scene by car. The accident caused the Cadillac’s hood to crumple and obstruct the windshield.

The driver was traveling about 30 MPH over the speed limit with obstructed vision when he tried to pass a tractor trailer in the median of the highway. He slammed into another vehicle on Highway 74/66 near Pineland Road. The driver of that vehicle, Martha Mintz, 61, was killed.

The alleged drunk driver has been charged with second degree murder, felony death by vehicle and DWI. For the earlier accident, he faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a revoked license and habitual DWI. He was convicted of DUI three times before.

Just on the murder charge, the accused faces 22 years in prison if convicted.

North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyer Perspective:

It is obvious to any intelligent person that drinking and driving is an extremely stupid and dangerous act. Unfortunately, drunk driving deaths are all too common. Even with all of the progress made in the last 30 years in cutting down drunk driving, about 11,000 people per year are still killed by drunks behind the wheel.

Any time an innocent person is injured or killed by a drunk driver, the family of the injured or lost deserves as much justice as possible. That is why the family should only hire an experienced personal injury lawyer who only represents the victims of drunk drivers,  and one that has had great success in winning big dollar settlements for victims’ families.

With an experienced personal injury lawyer at your side, you stand a strong chance of winning compensation for your pain and suffering in a wrongful death lawsuit.
