Melba Lipford of Snow Hill, North Carolina (NC), was traveling down U.S. 70 with her 5-year-old grandson when her life came to an abrupt end. A Cove City man driving a GMC Arcadia attempted to make a lane change when he hit the rear of Lipford’s Mercury Mountaineer.
The impact caused Lipford’s Mountaineer to veer off the road and it hit a tree. The fatal accident occurred between the Clarks and Tuscarora exits on U.S. 70. Lipford, who was traveling was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sun Journal.

Our hearts go out to the Lipford family. Losing someone you love is never easy, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden and caused by the carelessness of another person. The one bright spot in this tragic situation is that Lipford’s 5-year-old grandson was not injured in the wreck.
This crash illustrates the importance of taking your time when changing lanes. Even the slightest mistake can have devastating consequences.
The Lipford family may want to consider filing a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver. For information about North Carolina wrongful death law, take a look at this article written by an experienced wrongful death attorney in North Carolina.
